Cardiff
Cardiff surprises most people that visit it for the first time and this is one of the reasons that they keep returning again and again. It's already well known for its sporting, artistic and maritime traditions, but it has much more to offer than that, important though they are.
Cardiff is an ideal center for exploring the regions of South Wales, whether this is to go to the surfing areas around Porthcawl, or the historic historical museums in the Rhonda. The Cardiff Millennium Stadium has hosted many rugby and football events and it is also home to other forms of entertainment, particularly suitable due to its retractable roof, protecting the spectators from inclement weather.
The Castle in Cardiff is situated in the very centre of the city and is one of the leading attractions of not just Cardiff, but Wales. It is sited the very heart of the capital, alongside city centre shopping and the magnificent Bute Park. Within the Castle an elaborate interior is lavish and opulent, rich with murals, stained glass, marble, gilding and elaborate wood carvings. Each breathtaking room has its own special theme, including Mediterranean gardens and Italian and Arabian decoration. Peacocks, ducks and geese wander freely around the Castle grounds, where visitors can wander freely and envoy a break in the Castle Tea Rooms for morning coffee, light lunches or afternoon tea.
The Museum of Welsh life is close to the city centre and is well worth a visit when weekending in Cardiff. The site covers around 100 acres in the form of an open air museum consisting buildings gathered from over the whole of Wales. The indoor section of the museum houses farming implements, costumes and artifacts of daily living from the middle ages to today.
Cardiff is readily accessed by road and has good links to England in the south by the Severn Bridge, and from central and northern England down the attractive “Heads of the Valley” road and Ross on Wye. There is no shortage of accommodation for the holiday maker or weekend visitor in Cardiff and the range is comprehensive from top rated hotels, to friendly B&B’s or caravan and campsites.
